Day 1 - London/LimaFly from London with British Airways or Iberia to Madrid then connect with the LAN Airlines flight to Lima. On arrival late in the evening, you will be met and assisted for transfer to the Ramada Airport Hotel.Day 2 – Lima/Reserva Amazonica
Early morning flight to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the river. A motorboat then takes you one hour down the Madre de Dios River to the Reserva Amazonica Lodge, your base for the next two nights. Afternoon guided walk along the extensive system of jungle trails, offering an excellent introduction to the environment of the forest. Day 3 – Reserva Amazonica
Morning excursion to visit the flooded wetlands ecosystem. Afternoon boat ride up the river to Lake Sandoval. Here, there is the chance to see parrots, piranhas and giant otter. Evening caiman spotting excursion. Day 4 – Reserva Amazonica/Sacred Valley
Morning return transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco, the former ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Transfer by road to the Sacred Valley. Visit the famous market at Pisac and the formidable fortress of Ollantaytambo, the site of the Incas’ greatest victory against the Spanish. Two nights at Sol y Luna Hotel. Day 5 – Sacred Valley
Morning visit to the local community of Chincheros. Continue with a three hour acclimatisation walk enjoying the scenery and history of the Sacred Valley including the fascinating salt mines at Maras.Day 6 – Sacred Valley/Inca Trail
Morning transfer by road to Piscaycucho to start the legendary Inca Trail. Accompanied by a private guide and several porters, the first day of the trail is a five hour walk enjoying a stop at Q’oriwayrakina for lunch. Overnight camping amongst Inca terracing.Day 7 – Inca Trail
Today is a six hour trek through forests and past small holdings before ascending to the campsite at Llulluchapampa, with excellent views of Mount Huayanay.Day 8 – Inca Trail
Early morning ascent of Warmiwañusqua pass at 4,200m, before descending to the Pacaymayo River and back up to a second pass, Runkuraqay at 4,050m. Whilst the day is a good trek, the views are well worth the effort. Overnight camping at Phuyupatamarca, ‘the village on the edge of the clouds’.Day 9 – Inca Trail/Machu Picchu
Excellent morning’s trek past the ruins of Wiñay Wayna and increasingly into the cloud forest. Finally, the trail arrives at Intipunku, the gateway to the magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu. Overnight at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Day 10 – Machu Picchu/Cusco
Morning guided tour of Machu Picchu. Afternoon train and road journey to Cusco. Two nights at the Monasterio Hotel.Day 11 – Cusco
Morning tour of this fascinating city. Visit the Cathedral, Koricancha Temple, Plaza de Armas and continue to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a testament to Incan architectural skills. Afternoon at leisure.Day 12 – Cusco/Lima
Morning flight to Lima. Afternoon visit to historical and modern Lima, including the Archaeological Museum, the Presidential Palace and the church of San Francisco. Overnight at Casa Andina Private Collection Miraflores.Day 13 – Lima/London
Fly from Lima with an overnight LAN Airlines flight to Madrid connecting with a British Airways or Iberia flight to London, arriving day 14.
